PHOENIX, AZ, July 26th, 2022—As the average age of the used car continues to increase past record levels, the frequency at which consumers buy parts online is increasing according to a report released today by RevolutionParts.
The survey found that 40% of online parts buyers are shopping for parts online at least once per week and, on average, purchase a part once every three months.
“We are continuing to see even more parts purchases transition to online channels such as web stores and marketplaces. This report highlights how those shopping behaviors are changing,” says Ibrahim Mesbah, CEO of RevolutionParts.
The nationwide survey, conducted in July 2022, consisted of an online survey of more than 300 parts purchasers and asked questions to gain insight into the buying behavior and ideology of online parts shoppers.
The report also found that:
- 82% of purchasers install the parts they bought themselves
- 57% said that online reviews mattered when making their decision
- 21% are interested in extended warranties
- 27% are interested in shipping insurance
With the data provided in this report, parts manufacturers and sellers can gain unique insights into their customers’ mindsets and a better understanding of their buying habits and purchasing decisions.
Online shopping plays a significant role in the lives of average consumers, whether they are purchasing groceries or other retail items. This survey reflects that consumers shop online for various reasons, including price, convenience, selection, or because they cannot buy something locally. In addition, some respondents stated that they prefer shopping online to in-person shopping.
This survey reinforces the importance of selling parts online; otherwise, you risk shutting out an entire segment of potential buyers.
“Over the years, we have seen how much the online parts market has grown and how essential it became to new franchised dealerships during the pandemic,” says Ibrahim Mesbah. “We want to remove as much friction as possible from the process of buying and selling parts by making it simpler for sellers to connect with OEM parts buyers worldwide.”
